Performances: Concert

July 17, 2009, 8 p.m.
New York Philharmonic free concert, conducted by Alan Gilbert, on Central Park's Great Lawn,
featuring baritone Nathan Gunn singing selections from Copland's Old American Songs and selected Mozart arias, followed by Mahler's Symphony No. 1.

July 21, 2009

"The concert opened with Coplandís second set of 'Old American Songs,' with the dapper baritone Nathan Gunn as the soloist.

"Even mediated by microphones and loudspeakers the performance was worth savoring. Mr. Gunn sang with generous tone, sensitivity and exactly the right kind of swagger to bring these rustic songs to life. Mr. Gilbert, attentive and sympathetic, guided a spry, nuanced account."
