Schubert: Die schöne Müllerin -- Jonas Kaufmann & Helmut Deutsch, iTunes

"This hot 30-year-old German manfully takes on the 20-song cycle, The Beautiful Miller-girl, by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). He calls himself a tenor, but Kaufmann has the timbre of a baritone. He has Wagnerian aspirations that occasionally threaten to overwhelm some of these delicate Lieder. He also tends to like layering on the vocal pathos, which may not be to everyone's taste. That said, Kaufmann sings these songs of love and longing as though he really means it. Helmut Deutsch accompanies beautifully on piano."--John Terauds, thestar.com
