--- Matthew Polenzani, tenor, and Julius Drake, piano, performed Franz Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin, D. 795, tonight at Jordan Hall in Boston. Both gave a superlative performance, even better than I had expected. Polenzani has a pleasant voice and demonstrated considerable dramatic intelligence, making all the songs interesting and moving. His gestures and facial expressions, never excessive, were always appropriate. There was excellent rapport between the two performers. It was a delight to hear both of them. The audience was very appreciative. There was one encore, Schubert's "Im Abendrot." In introducing it, Polenzani said that both he and Julius Drake had discussed possible encores, but that they had decided to take another person's suggestion of "Im Abendrot." -- Matthew Polenzani and Julius Drake were at WGBH Radio on Wednesday, where they were photographed and where they performed "Der Neugierige" from Die sch&ounl;ne Müllerin for broadcast on the radio.
