According to a Reuters report in the Boston Metro,  Arnold Schwarzenegger is "'prochoice' on abortion and supports the use of medical marijuana but opposes gay marriage or issuing drivers licenses to illegal immigrants.  And, he once thought orgies could be fun."

"Look at [Howard Dean's] record in Vermont," writes Bill Press in a column published today in the
Boston Herald.  "Dean governed as a genuine middle-of-the-roader.

"He refused to raise income taxes.  He opposed gun control, for which he received an 'A' rating from the National Rifle Association.  He supported the death penalty.  And even though it was not constitutionally required, he balanced the budget every one of his 11 years as governor--and then set aside a 'rainy-day' fund for fiscal emergencies."

The New York Times Magazine of yesterday contained an article "Harvard Radical" by James Traub about Lawrence Summers, president of Harvard University.  The article's thesis is that many people at Harvard don't like Summers.

The article makes two errors relating to Harvard's geography.

On page 30, Traub writes, "Over the years, Harvard had assembled 260 acres across the Charles River in the town of Allston--a tract as large as the entire existing institution."  Actually, Allston is not a town, but is a section of the City of Boston.

On page 45, talking about proposals to move some of the science departments from Cambridge to Allston, Traub writes, "Which sciences will go, and where?  The kind of research being done in the biological sciences is practically indistinguishable from the work done at the medical school.  How can one go and the other stay?"  Traub seems to be unaware that the Medical School is not in Cambridge in any proximity to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, but is in Boston in the Longwood Avenue area near several major hospitals.

Is fact-checking a part of the editorial process at the
New York Times?

Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore's Academy-Award-winning documentary about America'a love affair with guns, has been released on DVD and can be ordered from amazon.com.  According to the Boston Herald, the "disc is packed with extras, including a commentary from Moore and another from his receptionist and interns; featurettes on Moore's travels around the country after the theatrical release of the film; and a Marilyn Manson music video."

Quotation for the day

"You are already creating your life every moment of every day by how you think and vibrate; you might as well create it the way you'd like it to be."

I am having computer difficulties today, and I have to use a computer other than my own.

I do not think that I will be able to update my j
ohnrpierce.info blog until I fix my computer or get a new computer, more likely the latter.

The
Boston Herald of today has alerted me to a blog devoted entirely to criticism of Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.  The blog is entitled "Romney is a Fraud."
